So you want to create a junk journal, but have no idea where to start?
Join us as we cut through the overwhelm of this amazing craft and learn the basics of constructing your own little book of joy. When you leave this class, you will have a journal you can begin using immediately. Or you can join us for follow up classes to learn the amazing elements you can create to add to your new journal.
Whether you are a crafter, an artist, a planner or a writer—junk journaling is a wonderful way to use all of your skills and express your creativity.
In this class you will learn the 10 steps in the process of creating a junk journal. We will start with how to plan and design your junk journal. We will design and develop your theme, learn about materials and supplies to construct the cover, spine and end pages. We will learn how to choose the pages for the signature, collate them into a book and sew them into our cover. Then we will learn design techniques to create a beautiful topper for the front cover. As we create, we will also discuss uses for your completed journal and developing your style to make this something that brings you joy as you use it each day.
Class size is limited to 10 students due to safe spacing requirements. $50 instructional fee including venue fee. This fee includes some supplies. Additional supplies are available from the instructor.

I will email a suggested supply list and answer any questions you have.
Materials
Before I give a list, let me say something about materials for junk journals. The concept is to use whatever you have around the house--not to go to the craft store and buy things. Bring what you have. If you are new to crafting and you don’t have any of this, I will have material kits available for sale.
If you are a crafter and you have other things you would like to use, like a paper trimmer, corner rounder, distress ink, fancy glue, etc. feel free to bring anything that will give you confidence to make something that brings you joy.
Here’s what we will be using in class:
Cover
9” x 12” Office Envelope
Heavy paper approximately 12” x 18” this can be wallpaper, a paper bag or craft paper
12” x 12” scrapbook paper--not card stock, one-sided is fine
Tape-packing, Tyvek, or masking
Wet glue-Elmer’s craft bond, Alene’s craft or tacky glue or Fabri-Tac
Ruler
Scissors
Pencil
Signature pages
20-25 pages of your choice. These can be book pages, sheet music, stationery, scrapbook paper, lined paper or digitals you print. We are going to be starting with a simple journal, so you do not need patterns or designs for this. We will add those elements later.
Cover topper
A picture or greeting card you are attracted to approximately 4 x 6 or 5 x 7. Other design elements could include flat lace, a paper doilie, fabric, patterned papers, or any ephemera elements you may have.
Glue stick
Sewing in the signature
Awl-if you do not have an awl, there are other pokey tools you could use like an ice pick (no stabbing your classmates allowed)
A needle with a large eye like a darning needle
Thread that will go through the needle. This could be a strong sewing thread, embroidery thread, kitchen string or waxed thread.
Heavy paper or silicone mat to cover your work surface
Wet wipes or baby wipes
A paperback book or catalog to hold your signature while you poke your holes
4 Binder clips or clothes pins
