Beginners to advanced welcomed!! Lets paint your favorite pet or animal with life and energy!! Students will be shown how to break down any animal into basic formed shapes and then create a color palette unique to that animal. Developing a good drawing in shapes , using color value to create form and expressive brushwork will be encouraged to bring your favorite pet/animal to life on canvas. Fun and informative…so bring your creative juices and heart and lets paint.

Oil or acrylic welcomed. I am an oil painter but my techniques are the same if using acrylics…..special note I will encourage everyone to USE MORE PAINT!! This you will hear a lot!black and white

Bring a photo of your pet/animal at least 5x7 in size or 8x10…in color and in black and white. Larger is better to pant from.

Colors basic… 2 yellows, 2 reds and 2 blues are good to paint any subject..basically a warm /cool of each primary… cad yellow light, cad yellow deep or yellow ochre, cad red light, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, viridian, burnt sienna, titanium white. ( if you have colors you like to use please bring them) I will encourage mixing a range of values and discuss color temperature in animals.

Canvas sizes can be 12x12 , 11x14 or 12x16 stretched canvas or panels are fine.

Brushes I like hog bristle, soft synthetics in sizes 2 thru 8 and I love a spatula and palette knife as well. a good variety of brushes is a good thing to have on hand.

Palette paper or a palette large enough to mix paint on.

Paper towels, water container if using acrylics. If using oils I use a solvent called gamsol to clean my brushes and it is in a tank…which you can purchase at hobby lobby or online.

I also use mediums in my oils to help with flow and dry time..neomegilp or linquin. When using acrylics i like a gel medium or a flow medium…all gound at hobby lobby or online.
