PASTEL PORTRAITS WITH A TWIST
In this workshop, we will combine traditional pastel portraits with mixed media backgrounds to create personal narratives or highlight your subject in different ways. For students who have already taken my human portrait classes, you are welcome to work on pet portraits instead but I will be doing demos of people only. Individual help at the easel is always a given, so I can definitely help you with animal portraits as well.

In this workshop, you will learn::
How to create a vibrant underpainting in watercolor and acrylic ink to liven up your pastel portraits and speed up the process
Easy ways to transfer your drawing to the sanded paper for accuracy
The pitfalls to avoid when painting hair and teeth
How to look for subtle differences in seemingly symmetrical facial features
Layering pastels to achieve skin tones that are rich in color and depth
How to blend without muddying or flattening your painting
Tips and tricks to see values and proportions accurately
Thinking out of the box for adding non-traditional backgrounds to your pastel portraits (we will focus on using stencils and hand lettering but Daggi will show other techniques for additional inspiration
Each day will begin with Daggi doing a demo of the next steps followed by individual input at your easel.
